Newport Brass Faucets
Lavatory Faucets
Newport Brass offers
multiple lavatory faucets such as 8-inch widespread, single hole, center
set, and wall-mounted faucets. Offering multiple faucets from
traditional to contemporary which allows the customer to choose the best
faucet based upon their needs.
All Newport Brass
kitchen faucets are made of brass. Brass is considered a superior
material because it does not rust and also because of its toughness and
ability to withstand extreme temperatures. Newport Brass cartridges for
the lavatory faucets are ceramic disc type cartridges. These are made
of solid brass bodies and stems that provide smooth and consistent
operation. They are a 1/4 turn cartridge, and they feature a positive
stop that means lever handles will never be out of alignment. They
always stay in their original installed position. There are no washers
in a ceramic disc valves. In order for water to flow, the holes (or
ports) of the two ceramic discs must be aligned. These cartridges have
4” extensions if needed to go through a thicker deck, there is no
extension available for any lavatory spout.
Newport Brass differs
from most other companies when it comes to choosing your lavatory
faucet, you may mix and match the spout from one series to the handles
from another series. For example you may use the 850 series spout with
the handles from a 920. This is considered a special and does take time
to process any non standard request. For information on pricing and how
it should be ordered you would contact customer service
Often clients will
call and say it is confusing and awkward turning their faucets on and
off. All Newport Brass faucets are shipped the same way; the cold side
will turn on clockwise and the hot side will turn on counterclockwise.
This can be changed if the customer wants the handles to turn the same
way if they have either cross handles or cylinder handles. The customer
would need to purchase either a cold side cartridge or hot side
cartridge depending on which way they want their handles to turn.
Lavatory faucets have
to be restricted to 2.2gpm. Aerators in spouts mix air with water.
They are made from a screen and restrictor that limits the flow of water
while increasing the water pressure. Non-aerated spouts will have free
flowing water; these are more likely to splash if the angle of the spout
is not correct. Also non-aerated spouts still have the water restricted
to 2.2gpm with a restrictor within the spout itself.
·
SINGLE HOLE
As the name implies,
these faucets require a single hole for installation. They may be
available as a single handle or two handle model.
·
4-INCH CENTER
These faucets require
three holes to be cut in the surface with the centers of the two outside
holes four inches apart and one in the center for the pop-up rod.
·
8-INCH WIDESPREAD
Widespread faucets
feature a separate spout and valves and require three holes to be cut in
the surface. Widespread faucets are generally referred to as eight in
faucets, but their spread can range anywhere from 8” to 20”. These are
normally equipped with flexible stainless steel braided hoses that allow
the flexibility of their spread. Also widespread faucets do not have to
be set in a straight line. This allows the faucet to be installed in a
manner that follows the line of curved lavatory sinks.
·
WALL
MOUNTED FAUCET
Wall mounted faucets
have gained in popularity recently. Wall mounted faucets are usually
used with free standing, above the counter bowls. Generally the
installation is similar to a two-valve wall mounted tub set. The valves
have solid roughs with a non-adjustable eight-inch spread. The spout
can only be mounted in-line with the handles,
it cannot be above or below the handles.
Common Issues and
Solutions
·
Water is
dripping from the tip of the spout.
Replace correct
cartridge (cold or hot, see the “Valves” section of the Tech Manual for
the correct part number).
·
Water is
dripping where the hoses from the hot and cold valves meet the spout.
Replace tee assembly (see tee assembly chart).
·
Water is
dripping from the base of the spout.
Replace spout (see
parts price list in back of Newport
Catalog for part
number)
·
Water is
coming out of the pop-up hole in the top of the faucet.
Replace spout, the tee
assembly nut was over torqued (see parts
price list in back of Newport
Catalog for part
number).
·
Water is
leaking down the nipple coming out of the bottom of the spout, either
inside or outside of the nipple.
Replace spout (see
parts price list in back of Newport
Catalog for part
number)
·
Restricted water flow
Check the aerator for
debris, clean the cartridges making sure there is no debris, check that
tee assembly is installed correctly, if all is good then replace valves,
for wall mounted valves have the plumber check the lines for debris (see
the “Valves” section of the Tech Manual for the correct part number).
·
Wall
mounted lavatory has lever handles that are too heavy and turn on by
themselves.
Customer needs to
install torquable cartridges provided with
the trim, if customer threw out or does not have (see the “Valves”
section of the Tech Manual for the correct part number).
·
Handles
on wall mounted lavatory faucet do not line up correctly.
Refer to “How to Align
Handles” handout.
