Newport Brass Faucets
Bridge Faucets
Newport Brass offers
bridge faucets for both the kitchen and lavatory. Bridge faucets have
separate holes for the hot and cold supply lines. Water travels to the
spout via an exposed finished waterway referred to as a bridge. These
faucets are used primarily in the kitchen, but are also available for
the lavatory. Bridge faucets offer the same advantages as the
widespread faucets since they are also made of brass and use our 1/4
turn ceramic disc cartridges.
Newport Brass has four different models of lavatory bridge faucets from
which to choose. They do offer a pop-up assembly with
them, however the pop-up rod is not located
on top of the spout like a standard lavatory faucet. It is a separate
piece typically located directly between the hot and cold handles on the
deck or countertop. The cartridges that are used for the lavatory
bridge faucets are the same cartridges for the standard lavatory
valves. There are no extensions available for any of our bridge
faucets. All of the lavatory bridge faucets are adjustable where the
hot and cold handles have a limited spread which can also change the
center to center reach for the spout. The spouts on the lavatory bridge
faucets do swivel like the kitchen bridge faucets do, however spout
reach is not as long as the kitchen faucet.
Kitchen bridge faucets have several differences from their lavatory
brethren. The main difference is the spout length, as the spout needs
to be longer for the kitchen since it has to accommodate the kitchen
sink. Second, there is no pop-up available since a pop-up cannot be
used in a kitchen application. Last, is that the kitchen bridge faucets
are available with and without a side-spray. Due to internal
differences between side-spray and non side-spray faucets, one cannot be
added to any faucet that did not originally come with one.
Kitchen bridge faucets
with a side-spray can be very tricky to install and we highly
recommended that it is installed by a professional plumber and that the
installation instructions are followed precisely. Missing one little
step can cause the faucet to not function properly. Like the widespread
faucets the hot and cold handles are adjustable except for the fixed
bridge on the 945 and 945-1, but the adjustable bridge faucets have a
limited spread which can also change the center to center reach for the
spout; see the specifications sheet for the specific faucet in question.
Common Issues and
Solutions
·
My
bridge faucet is leaking from the end of the spout.
Replace the correct cartridge, hot or cold.
·
My
bridge faucet is leaking from where it swivels.
Replace entire faucet.
·
The hot
and cold shanks are not long enough to go through my deck.
Since there are no
extensions they would have to route out the counter from the bottom to
make it fit.
·
After
just installing the bridge faucet with side spray, the side-spray works
but nothing will come out of the spout.
Uninstall the faucet,
turn the whole faucet around 180° and re-install per the instructions.
Also the handles may have to be reversed.
·
My
bridge faucet with side spray leaks where the bridge diverter assembly
connects to the shanks of the faucet.
First make sure there
is an o-ring on the inside of the lower adaptor,
then make sure the clip is installed. Last make sure the hex
sides from the upper and lower adaptors are lined up together with no
gap between them.
·
My
side-spray leaks when I turn on the water from the spout.
First thing to check
would be the screw which is located under the faceplate. Unthread the
faceplate off making sure to keep all the washers in order, and then you
may adjust the screw by either tightening it to the right or loosening
it to the left. This affects the tension on the thumb piece. If it is
too tight then it can cause the trigger to activate allowing a dribble
of water to steadily stream out of the side spray. The next option
would to try replacing the diverter cartridge or assembly, if all else
fails replace the side spray (#129).
