Newport Brass Faucets
Bidets
A
bidet is a personal hygiene fixture with temperature controlled water
used for personal cleanliness. Bidets offer hands-free cleansing and a
superior wash in place of using toilet paper. They soothe and refresh
with gentle water cleansing. Bidets are most useful for people with
medical conditions such as hand or arm disabilities, hemorrhoids and
prostate infections. Newport Brass offers two main types of bidets,
vertical and horizontal.
The
most common bidet would be the vertical spray bidet. Newport Brass
offers all of their vertical spray bidets for a four
hole application. When selecting a bidet on which to mount your
bidet fixture, any bidet with four holes on top will work. Mounted on
the bidet will be the hot and cold handles, diverter/vacuum breaker, and
pop-up knob for the drain. Within the bidet itself you will find the
vertical sprayer and the pop-up drain. When the diverter is activated
the water will not fully divert from the bowl to the spray; this is for
sanitary reasons and cannot be changed. For the vertical spray
application the diverter/vacuum breaker prevents the possibility of
contaminated water from flowing back into the clean water system. If
the user wants to use the bidet as a sitz
bath they would then close the drain and allow the water to fill the
bowl.
Horizontal bidets are also the single-hole bidets mounted on the front
rim of the bidet and water comes out in a similar fashion to a lavatory
faucet. The single-hole bidet also features a pop-up drain with the
pop-up rod coming out of the back of the fixture. If the user wants to
use the bidet as a sitz bath they would then
close the drain and allow the water to fill the bowl.
Both
styles of bidets will use the same type of supply kit and p-trap as you
would use for the lavatory faucet in the bathroom. It would take two
angle or straight valves for hot and cold, with the supply lines,
flanges, and nipples if necessary depending on the piping in the wall.
For more information on supply kits and p-traps please refer to Chapter
3 “Supply Kits and Drains”.
